This workshop, sponsored by the Lewis and Clark Conservation District, and partially funded by a grant from the MACD Programs, will be held on September 14th and will begin at 8:30 am. We'll start the day at the Augusta Youth Center, next door to the Augusta Senior Center, for the morning portion and lunch provided by the Buckhorn Bar. Campers will be introduced to 25 of Montana’s important range plants—grasses, forbs, and shrubs—and will learn about the interaction of soils, water, plants, wildlife, and livestock on the range. The camp provides an excellent opportunity for youth of varying backgrounds to become more aware of the value and potential of Montana’s rangeland. This well organized, balanced, and educational program brings together range professionals and interested students to learn in the great outdoors. The Conservation District had planned to have a Riparian Grazing Workshop in the Augusta area on July 21. With the consideration of the Covid-19 virus and the nature of the workshop, specifically the proximity of people to each other during the day, we have opted to postpone the workshop to spring/summer 2021. The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) offers a low interest loan program as an incentive for private landowners to do range improvement practices. Currently the rate is 1.5% and there is a maximum loan amount of $75,000. Repayment is scheduled for a maximum of 10 years with annual payments.
