New 310 Permit Rules

Every legislative session there is the potential for mandated rule changes.  That's what happened in the 2019 session. The Lewis & Clark Conservation District has officially updated our rules for permitting on the streams in Lewis & Clark County. The process has largely not changed, just the time that is allowed for a landowner to appeal the Board's decision. Click here to see the new rules for permitting.

Bob Bushnell

Bob is shown here, 3rd from the right from a Board photo taken in 2016. Sad news today, Bob Bushnell, a former Supervisor for Lewis & Clark Conservation District, passed away recently.  Bob served on the Conservation District Board, an elected but unpaid position, for the Lincoln Area for 16 years. We appreciated his service and missed him when he retired. Bob's daughter Jeanette now serves on the board for the Lincoln Area. Bob will be best remembered at the Conservation District for his passion about the fight of invasive species, his unflinching support for our high school Envirothon teams,…

XX Bar Farm & Ranch

A few years ago, Lewis & Clark Conservation District sponsored a grant for a local farmer and rancher, Tim Dusenberry of the XX Bar Farm & Ranch.  The grant was for a pilot project to look at doing cover cropping for soil health improvement. Tim has expanded on that operation and recently was interviewed on the Montana Public Radio Home Ground with Brian Kahn.  Tim talks about how he got interested in working on improving soil health and other innovations that he's made with mob grazing and other techniques. December Board meeting

Proposed Rule Change

The Lewis & Clark Conservation District will revise the Natural Streambed and Land Preservation Act rules governing the administration of the district’s stream permitting program.  The revision will include changing the time frame for an applicant to appeal a Board’s decision from 15 days to 30 days per HB383 that become law during the 2019 legislative session. A public hearing will be held Monday, December 16, 2019 from 9 to 10 am at the USDA Service Center Conference Room, 790 Colleen Street, Helena MT 59601 to provide an opportunity to present views and submit written comments on the proposed rules.…
